About Emily
From the age of seven, Emily discovered a love for singing, beginning in group settings and soon stepping into the spotlight as a soloist. Throughout her schooling, she immersed herself in singing in choirs, by taking lead roles in school musicals and initiating small vocal ensembles that allowed her to explore the joy of harmony and collaboration. Her passion for singing and music education grew hand in hand, laying the foundation for her future career.
She went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts (double major in vocal performance) alongside a Bachelor of Teaching, driven by a dual desire to refine her own voice and to inspire a love of singing in young people. While completing her degree from 2011-2014, Emily performed extensively as a soloist and session vocalist and toured the United States and Australia as a member of the university’s vocal octet.
Early in her teaching career, Emily developed a particular interest in childhood and adolescent vocal development - how young voices shift, grow, and need specialised support both as soloists and in group singing. She undertook in-depth training in the Kodály Method, gaining insight into how children and adolescents learn music sequentially through singing, and how to select age-appropriate repertoire for their vocal and cognitive development. Her interest deepened into neuromusicology and how children experience and thrive in music learning. This background now informs her sensitive, adaptive approach to vocal coaching, especially during the formative adolescent years to support the transition into adult vocal development.
Highlights from Emily’s performance experience include singing with Sydney Philharmonia Choir’s VOX Choir, Australian Academy of Harmony, Ladies in Black, Hans Zimmer Live, NRL Grand Final behind One Republic, and sharing a stage with Australia’s James Morrison.
Emily has directed, produced and vocal coached several musicals including Pirates of Penzance Jr., Annie and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and continues to guide musical theatre performers in building both vocal technique and performance confidence through private vocal coaching sessions and group workshops.
Now based in the Yarra Valley, Emily teaches private voice lessons for adults, teens and children, runs workshops for choirs both locally and interstate and serves as the Artistic Director of the Lilydale Teen Choir.
